Active Listening Response Note Taking Cards

Product Description

Active Listening Note Taking Cards

Active Listening is a challenging skill for many students. Teaching, modeling and guided practice with active listening will promote active listening, engagement and participation in your classroom when someone is speaking, whether it be a teacher, student, presenter, etc.

Have your students start off with practicing Active Listening by recording thoughtful questions and comments. Note taking often eliminates student distractions as they are focused on the speaker and the note taking task at hand, plus they have their questions and comments prepared when the speaker is ready.

Then, teach and model how to practice Active Listening with these 5 skills: restate, summarize, reflect, asking questions and making connections to the speaker. Teach, model and practice these skills individually before giving students the note taking card with all the skills where they’ll choose ONE skill to focus on while listening.

You could teach, model and do guided practice with Active Listening during these classroom activities:
During a lesson
While watching a video
When someone is presenting (presenter, teacher, student, parent, etc.)
When a student is sharing their work
During a read aloud
While students are peer coaching

This product includes:
An intro to Active Listening and how to use the response note taking cards.
7 Active Listening Note Taking Response Cards (In black and white and color)
*Thoughtful Questions & Comments
*Restate (paraphrase)

*Reflect
*Asking Questions
*Making Connections
*All the skills
Response Note Taking Cards could be laminated for easy reuse, written directly on or used with a post it note. You could make a laminated set of these cards for each student and attach to a binder ring for easy access and practice. Get them here.
