This fun Name Tag STEM Challenge was featured in Good Housekeeping!

Want to dive right into STEM on Day 1? This back-to-school challenge is a fun way to get to know your students while introducing the engineering design process.

As students work through the challenge, you’ll get an early look at how they problem-solve, think critically, create, design, redesign, and evaluate. It’s a low-pressure way to observe these skills before diving into your STEM standards.

And you’ll learn a lot about your students! You’ll quickly notice who tackles the challenge with ease, who gets frustrated, who redesigns again and again, and who needs encouragement to keep going. Plus, those student-created name tags make learning everyone’s names on Day 1 a little easier!

When everyone is finished, hold an optional classroom museum walk where students can view one another’s creations and share thoughtful comments or suggestions.
