Summer Checklists

Don’t let your students go down the summer slide! Parents are always asking for a list of structured, yet flexible, list of activities in different subject areas that their child(ren) could and should be doing over the summer. I send home these checklists, along with my summer reading brochures, with students on the last day of school stuffed into their report card sleeve. You can also send these to parents electronically. Most kids or parents will put these on their fridge or in their work area to refer to each day. It gives parents and students some kind of structure which they’ll need over the summer.

Some years I have given an incentive to students that if students complete these checklists, I will reward them with some kind of reward, like a summer lunch with the teacher, a personalized note in the mail, or a free book when they return to school in the Fall.

You can use my checklists as is or create your own to fit the subjects/grade/age you teach.
